A friend asked me to decorate an MDF box for her. The brief was
very loose, no restrictions on type of decoration, style or colour,
which actually made deciding on the decoration difficult as there
was no reference point to start from. After a few attempts I finally
decided on an oriental theme designing a scene based on traditional
lacquer furniture.
The black background contrasts with the variety of metallic and
gilded effects used to create the gilded landscape on the outside
of the box. The inside of the box is painted a rich, warm red.
The gilded and bronzed decoration is sealed with a high gloss
finish to simulate the depth of old oriental lacquer.
